I had RK surgery in 1988 , the one with the radial cuts. I would like to get enhancement to correct my left eye which never got to 20/20. What are the risks of having lasik after RK. Would it be better for me to have lasik or correction with another RK procedure? Do you even do RK anymore? What would a surgeon charge for this, the price of a whole new procedure or less? I live in a different state than where I origionally had the surgery, so I'd have to go to a new surgeon in the Denver area.
RK was very popular here in Arizona and I have done a large number of LASIK on patients that have had RK in the past. All of the patients have done extremely well and are very happy with the results. LASIK is the way to go. I would not recommend further RK surgery. With LASIK you can correct any astigmatism. Most RK patients have some. I would recommend you get into see someone with experience in your area and have them examine you eye. I charge the same for patients having LASIK after RK as normal patients.
I agree with Dr. Brehms. Previous RK patients are some of the happiest LASIK patients I've had. The charge is the same and the risks are the same with the exception that the previous RK poses it's unique situations. Your surgeon will discuss this with you. Good luck!!
