recently, a doctor claimed that I have a retinal hole in my left eye and suggested me to go for a laser surgery to have it sealed. He suggested that this is not a necessarily treatment if I don't want to but this could lead to retinal detachment if left untreated.

Just want to have some more opinions. Is it common for this treatment? What are the side effects of taking this treatment? Risks involved? Do people usually go for a laser surgery when having retinal holes?

Do you suggest me to take this treatment?

Thanx.

Hi Shirley,
I got the same problem with you. I was thinking to have lasik for a long time. But the doctor found there was a retinal hole in my left eye. He highly recommended me to see a specialist before I go for Lasik. Because there is a risk(retinal dettachment) when I have lasik surgery. The retinal specialist suggested me to have cryotherapy to seal it. Because of the position of the hole was upper of my left eye, he used cryotherapy not laser. I had it on 6/8/01. It was very good. After six weeks, the specialist checked my left eye again and told me go to Lasik.

Good luck.
Nancy
