I had lasik 5 months ago, Now last week I started getting light flashes one day in my left eye and the next day got alot of floaters, one is pretty big. I seen my doctor and He looked in my eye and said that I had some of the jelly substance on the retna break away and now pieces are floating around. He could not see any tears or holes. Do you think I need someone else to look at it. Is it a problem caused from having lasik when the eye was streached for the cutting of the flap? Also I do have some problems with star bursting at night mainly in my right eye. Will it get better or is there something that can be done?

Light flashes tend to indicate a vitreous detachment from the retina. The vitreous is the clear jelly-like substance that fills the central portion of the eye. Vitreous detachment does not normally lead to vision loss, but small pieces of the vitreous or retina may float around inside the eye and become an annoyance.
Anyone who experiences light flashes should be examined by a competent eye doctor. If there appears to be damage to the retina or additional complications, the patient should be referred to a vitreoretinal specialist for evaluation.
The National Eye Institute has a nice article about vitreous detachment that you may find helpful.

Light flashes can indicate a serious problem. It is serious enough that anyone experiencing light flashes should be promptly evaluated by an eye doctor.
