I had Lasik done six years ago. Three years ago, my vision changed suddenly over night. I am now wearing glasses. About two years ago, I noticed my eyes becoming weaker and weaker. I could only read a chapter of a book at a time. I could only watch 20 minutes of a movie. If I went longer, my eyes would suffer terrible pain and my eyelids would line up with sties. Gradually, this time frame shortened. Now, if I so much as read a newspaper column, I will have sties. My eyes will hurt so bad I can't do anything for a few days but lie in bed with my eyes closed. I have been to an opthomologist regarding this, and I use reading glasses which only allow me to look at the internet. Books and tv- still off limits. Basically, I am in eye hell. I am only 28 years old. None of the doctors I have been to can help me, so I'm wondering if I can fix this problem with more lasik, or is this going to create more problems. I'm a young guy, married with one kid. Basically my life is over if I don't find some way to fix this problem that keeps getting worse and worse.
Thanks for your time.

Any sudden change in vision is an emergency. If your sudden change was myopia, this sounds like ectasia. You need to see doctors to find out why your eyes go in spasms when you read or watch TV. Get a manifast refraction and the proper glasses pescription. You may have myopia and astigmastim now. If glasses do not adequately help clear your vision, you may need to look into RGP contacts. The last thing to think about is more lasik, this is what started the problems. What you need is proper glasses. What pescription are you in each eye now and how well do you see without glasses? with? Are things blurry from near?
I am not a doctor, but I will try to figure out what the problem is and you can tell the doctor the exact problem and he can propose the solution to the problem. Sorry to hear of your troubles!

I definitely appreciate the reply. My eyes don't really go into spasms, but the will begin to hurt right away if I read, write, or watch tv. Hurting to the point where I won't be able to operate in any way the following day. Also, my eyelids swell up and break out in stye-like sores. It's almost like something out of a movie. I do have a correct pair of glasses, and now a pair of reading glasses which enables me to at least use the computer. I will look into the things you suggested. I've been to an opthamologist several times, and she has given up on me. She is the fifth one. Basically, they think I'm lying because they say someone can't just get styes and terrible eye headaches from looking at a book.

I read up on ectasia. Very interesting. I guess with the popularity of lasik, they don't really want people knowing about these sorts of side-effects. I don't even know where to begin trying to talk to a doctor about this. I suppose I'll return to my opthamologist and ask her about ectasia.

i have no idea what my perscription is now. Without glasses, my vision is almost as bad as pre-lasik. can't see much of anything unless its in front of my face.

what was your pescription before lasik? If you cant see anything more than inches past your face, you could be around a -5 now. Sounds like ectasia. You had a sudden overnight regression due to the bulging of your cornea.

Can you see clearly from up close with or without glasses? Do you see well with glasses? I am trying to figure out why you get such bad eyestrain. Tell me as much as you know and ill figure out the cause/solution to your problems. I am not a doctor but a researcher.

It all happened overnight. Actually, I had started taking a medicine called Straterra. Overnight, I could no longer see 20/20. Prior to lasik, I had pretty crummy vision. Sorry I don't know any of the exact numbers. My vision now isn't as bad as before, but I need glasses to do anything. I see well with glasses, but seriously reading just a little bit of text in a magazine or something kills me. My opthamologist doesn't think this has anything to do with Lasik, but I want to look elsewhere for help. I don't know should I approach a different opthamologist, an eye surgeon or who. I don't know what questions to ask. Basically, I've just been suffering for a few years because no one knows anything about this. The internet is the first time I've read about problems like this.

a sudden or overnight regression in vision sounds like ectasia. Have you mentioned this to your doctors? I would be demanding them explain why your vision regressed overnight. This is NOT normal and could be part of the reason why you cant see well from near and get eyestrain and headaches reading. Also mention Straterra if this had any effect. If you indeed have ectasia, RGP contacts should help you. Get topographies and post them here, maybe one of the doctors can shed light on that.

Is this something an opthamologist can do, or do i need to go to an eye surgeon? My opthamologist kept telling me my problem had nothing to do with Lasik. Thanks for the help thus far. Greatly appreciated. I've just been suffering through it for 3 years.
