I am on a quest for as much info as I can get about correcting flap wrinkles, and I need answers quick because the wrinkles in my flap are already 8 weeks old. I have found one article on Slack (http://www.slack.com) titled "Modified technique successfully removes flap wrinkles, reduces striae". It describes a technique of hydrating the flat with a hypotonic 80% salt solution. This is a modification on a technique of hydrating the flap with sterile water.

Has anyone out there tried hydrating a wrinkled flap or had their corneal flaps hydrated? I would love to hear from you. I would also greatly appreciate any feedback on what works, what hasn't worked, and what are the possible complications with any given wrinkle removing procedure. Is the risk of complication associated with wrinkle treatment any greater or worse than those associated with enhancement surgery?

Here's my short story. Even though my optometrist and two ophthalmologist (one a cornea specialist) have examined left eye and believe flap wrinkles or folds are creating much distortion in my vision, my surgeon insists they are not. He believes I just need an enhancement for farther correction. I believe some of his reluctance to hear what I am saying about my visual experience and the opinions of other eye specialists is that he doesn't know of a solution. Some of my symptoms are: my vision dramatically decreases with decreased in light levels, and the full moon looks like a deck of round cards smeared into a big C with the brightest C, the moon, being 1/3 the way from the top.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Paula

Dear Paula,
I do perform hypotonic flap hydration, and have had good success correcting wrinkles. To assess whether I could help you, I would need to examine your eyes in order to determine the exact nature of the problem. If you wish to have an examination and opinion, please feel free to contact my office in Renton Washington.
