It has been one month since my Lasik on both eyes in Michigan. One eye is 20/20 or better and I am very happy with it. The other eye has had problems. The day after the surgery, I had Macro striae, and the doctor lifted the flap back up, and layed it back down and then rolled it with a plastic roller for 50 minutes. The striae went down a lot, but I still have micro striae that are making my vision wavy, blurry, and anywhere from 20/70 to 20/50 depending on if I guess better on the chart. Using the lens machine..they can't get my vision any better either. I think it is because of the wrinkles causing abnormal astigmatisms perhaps. I have been to the doctors office once or twice a week for the last month. The striae are still there. I went to Dr. Tayfour for a second opinion, and he said the flap should be relifted, and let to swell, and reseated, but not rolled, and do not tape the eye...do not put pressure on it at all. When i told my doctor this he was upset that I had the nerve to talk to other doctors, yet he only tells me that he has never seen this before, and barely gives me more than three minutes of his time to ask questions. He has extremely poor bedside manners (Dr. Myers). I have spent a week with a bandaged lens in the eye, but it was of no help on the striae. Now I am scheduled to have him lift the flap again. He tells me that I will be very likely to then have ephileal migration of cells under the flap, and then he will have to fix that eventually too. Before i paid him the money, he had all the answers...but then now I see that perhaps I did not have all the questions to be asking about cmplications. Anyway...I have had moments of great vision in that eye after drops..or if i try to focus on things...so maybe the underlying lasik was done correctly, and the striae are all that are causing the poor vision. Going through life with one good eye, and one uncorrectable bad eye is almost fodder for unthinkable acts....I am so discouraged about this. My preop myopia was -11 in both eyes...so technically I see much better...but not if I lose my best corrected vision, and have all this hassle now. Any suggestions?? Prognosis? Should I ask him to do a eye surface map before and after the flap lift so we can see if there are any improvements..or just let him keep looking at it through the slit lens to check progress...?

Well I had the flap refloated like described above. The doctor also removed my ephilium with a scapel. i have never been in so much pain for a day now whle the eye is healing from the scraping like that. He said he could see the wrinkles coming out as he stretched the flap with sponges, and rolled it for 30 minutes. with the scraping of the ephilium it is supposed to make my eye water constantly as it heals itself, which will keep the flap swollen and hydrated. hopefully my sight will be better after this. right now it is blurry and foggy, but that will settle down as the flap clears right?

I had a similar problem with my flap. I had creases in it that sould not be smooth out, and as a result had blurred and ghosted vision that could not be corrected. I also had epithlium cells beneath the flap removed, so I understand how your vision is. It tooks weeks for my vision to clear. I had to have my flap replaced. Hopefully yours will clear up. I would get a second opinion from a corneal surgeon who has experience with flap complication to ease your mind.

3. "I don't know if you are still checking this bulletin board. I also had wrinkles, had one eye refloated and the other eye scraped. Ouchhh!! My surgery was mid March with the scraping done on March 20th -- very close in time to yours. So I am interested in the progress of your eye compared to mine. The vision in the scraped eye is only begining to improve. It is probably around 20/60, but they haven't been able to get visual accuity so far with lens. I am told to be patient and wait and I can tell some improvement this week."

Hello,

I need some advice. I had Lasik one week ago on 1/7/04. Today I went in for a follow-up and although I have better than perfect vision (20/15 in each eye), the flap in my left eye is slightly folded. My surgeon recommended I leave the fold as-is, since I have great vision, including night vision. He said it is fine to not perform the refloat since my eyesight is so good and I do not seem to have any side effects from the fold.

My question is, does it make sense to not fix the fold in my left eye? Could there be complications down the line if I don't fix it? Could there be an increased risk of side effects or regression? HELP! I don't know what to do?

Thanks,
Mia
