I had lasik done in late May 2004. At my one day, one week, and one month follow ups, my left eye always tested a little less than my right, and I also experienced ghosting and less crisp vision, which I told the doctors. They never seemed to be alarmed, and felt it was something that still may clear up. Now at my 3 month follow up, after which nothing has changed, I was told there is a striae in that eye causing the problem. While the left eye still tests out at 20/20 in controled exam room (although I have to work at it), in everyday life the blurring is much more noticable, effecting my overall vision. Starburst is also more significant in this eye. After consulting with the surgeon, he told me my options are to raise the flap, smooth it out, and put on the bandage contact, or to live with it as is, because there is a chance the vision will regress with flap correction. My questions are as follows: 1) Is this procedure effective after 3 months ? From previous answers it seems the earlier it's done, the better. 2) What are the chances for a worse result ? Is the regression he mentioned the result of astigmatism changes ? 3) Shouldn't this have been found and/or mentioned to me earlier ? The symptoms I'm experiencing have been there from the start. The effects are quite bothersome, and I would like a correction - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have a detailed article on striae at:

http://www.complicatedeyes.org/striae.htm

If the problem is macro-striae, earlier intervention is usually better. If the problem is micro-striae, then letting the healing process do its work is often best.

It is really impossible for anyone to accurately predict the outcome, but a flap lift normally does not cause any more problems than when it was created in the first place. The healing process will restart, and you already know what that is like.
