I had Lasik surgery in Jan. 05 and came out with quite lousy results. My doctor says all the numbers look good, but my right eye is around 20/30 with some ghosting and glare and my left isn't even at 20/40 with horrid glare and ghosting. I also suffer from dry eye as a result, which has not subsided as of today, 9/05. After six months of checkups and my doctor contimuously informing me that all the numbers check out, I got a second opinion. The second doctor, after looking at me for about 20 minutes, told me I have straie and that he could do a procedure to relift the flap, stretch it, and suture, and this would sort out the straie that had formed on my eye. I went back to my first doctor and he was very upset with the second doctor stating this, telling me that this procedure could just create more straie, thatmy flap is too thin and would create too much of a risk, and that the straie I have is minor and shoudnt affect my vision, and even offered to pay for another opinion from another doctor. After I approached him with this information, he also had RPG lenses made to see whether it was actually straie. The lenses make my vision perfect. He then nformed me that these very uncomforatable lenses proved there was nothing wrong with my eyes (I have very bad dry eyes after surgery as well and have also been prescribed Restasis), were only a temporary fix, and would actually straighten out the minor straie I have and were an alternative to more surgery. I have been wearing these lenses every day for almost 2 months now from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed, as uncomforatable as that is, but my sight has actually deteriorated greatly when these lenses are not in my eyes. Should I stop wearing these lenses? Should I go back to the second doctor? I am a bit miffed because my eyes are not at a functioning level --I cannot drive at night, see any street signs without the lenses, play the sports (hockey, skiing, etc) I did before. The contacts enable me to function and perform my work (trial lawyer) but I don't want to keep wearing them if they are going to make my eye sight deteriorate, and they are horribly uncomforatable, especually with the dry eye I suffer from after surgery.
Is there really a surgery I could have done to get me back to where I was before I decided to have Lasik in the 1st place? Is there a procedure that would fix these issues, as the 2d doc suggests? All I really want at this point is to be able to wear glasses and not have the horrid uncomforatableness this has caused....kind'a like I was at before dropping a few grand to suffer through all this.

Has any doctors mentioned if you have a residual pescription? I would imagine you have some myopia and/or astigmastim. Request a manual refraction. Also if your doctor is offering to pay for you to get 2nd opinions, I see no reason why not. Tell those doctors the full story. Also request a topography, many problems can be detected with that. As for your worsening vision with RGP, they may be molding, warping your cornea so when they are removed you see worse. This is a temporary thing though. See if you can get glasses made and give them a few months for your eyes to stabalize then you can discuss enhancements. Im in agreement it makes no sense to get lasik just to wear uncomfortable RGPs which just patch the underlaying problem.

Thanks for the reply...unfortunately, my doc has tried different strength lenses on my eyes, but none seem to make my vision any better; thus, I cannot get a prescription for glasses. Trust me, if a prescription for eyeglasses fixed this, I would probably take it and walk away, as that is where I would have been prior to the surgery.

Your next course of action is to request a topography to detect high order aberrations and other corneal irregularities. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of wavefront enhancement
