I am supposed to have lasik surgery on the 27th of this months with Dr. Kevin Niksarli (I think his native name is Kevork Niksarli)in Manhattan Lasik Center. I was examined by Dr. Buchsbaum to check if I was a good candidate. He said yes but I am still worried. Does any one know or have heard of any of these two doctors. Please help I'm going nuts, I only have two eyes and I don't want to ruin them.

If you arent willing to take the risks of lasik and are worried about any chance of a bad outcome ruining your eyes, lasik may not be for you. Whats your pescription, pupil size, corneal thickness and reasons for lasik

my prescrp. is -5.25left and -5.5right. I don't know what the rest is. all I know is that they measured my pupils with a machine. I did check if all three doctors in that clinic are licenced in their area by calling the state department of health. They gave me all three licence numbers and told me that all three are in good stand. So i'm not that scared anymore. (well only a little being that I know they are going to cut that little flap on my eye with a kife or something and not laser)

find out your dilated pupil size! If its over 7mm, dont get lasik unless you dont mind losing some ability to see well at night. Find out how thick your corneas are. If they are too thin, you may not have enough for an enhancement. I know a few who werent told this and when they came for more lasik, the doctor told them for the first time their corneas were too thin for additional lasik. They are upset and feel they wasted their money and got lasik for nothing as they are back in glasses. Also find out if you have dry eyes or any other contridictions.
You didnt say why you wanted lasik. Lasik isnt something to do on a whim just because someone told you about it or you see an AD. You must have a strong desire to be less dependant on glasses and willing to accept all risks. If you are near 40 or over 40, youll be supprised to know youll still need glasses after lasik called reading glasses. Believe it or not, most people dont know and expect lasik to give them clear vision at all distances. Look up presbyopia.

This is a statement that cannot be substantiated by fact.
Pupil size can be an issue regarding night vision problems, however every patient is different and every treatment is unique. One cannot make a blanket statement like this with any accuracy. For details regarding Lasik and pupils, visit http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/lasik_pupil_size.htm

The reason why I want to get lasik surgery is because of my horrible vision without glasses or contacts. I hate having to wear goggles while in a pool. I also dislike having to put on my glasses to take a shower or look at the clock in the morning. I am 22 years old.

Hi Evelyn,
How was was your surgery? Can you tell me the pros and cons of your surgery with Dr. Niksarli? Would you recommend him?
Thanks!

I chickened out. I did not get the surgery and lost the $250 I gave them to check if I was a good candidate. I'm not sure I want to get it done anymore. I still haven't given myself the chance to re-think about it.

You can always have it done later. There is nothing wrong with waiting. You may want to write a note to the doctor's office and ask if they would provide you a new evaluation without additional cost, if you come within the next year or two. That way if you change your mind back to having surgery you won't lose your $250.
