Wondering if anyone knows anything about Dr. Neil Wills, who is with the LasikPlus Vision Center in Alexandria, VA. I had a friend use him who was VERY satisfied and would love some confirmation!

I used Dr. Neil Wills on June 19, 2001 at the Lasik Plus center in King of Prussia, PA. He said he has done about 3400 eyes. I particularly liked his willingness -- perhaps even eagerness -- to answer all my technical questions and, being an engineer, I had pretty many. It seemed like he had all the time in the world to answer all my questions; it felt almost awkward taking so much of a doctor's time. How often can you ever do that?
He seems like a pretty smart no-nonsense kind of guy (I think a lot of doctors fit this description). And I believe he was a pretty straight shooter when it came to describing the problems that could occur. Also, he definitely was not a salesman-type which is very good.
He used the B&L 217 laser on me. This was important for my larger than average pupils (7.5 mm). Pre-op, I was -4.50 in both eyes with some astigmatism. Post-op, I am 20/15 in left and 20/25 in right. Overall, I am very pleased with the results.
My wife thinks I am nuts because I walk around the house repeating, "This is awesome. This is incredible. This is fantastic." I continue to be surprised at how terrific it is to have vision better than glasses or contacts and without the hassle. I have a long ride to work along Blue Mountain (part of the Appalachians) and it never looked better. On a cool, crisp morning it just looks so good and sharp.
They told me the procedure wouldn't really affect my need for reading glasses but I find that I am much less dependent on them. I only need them for really close-up viewing (like 6"). I'm reading bedtime stories to the kids and using my computers endlessly without reading glasses. I couldn't do that before.
I saw Dr. Wills again a week following the surgery. He was performing procedures and they actually let you watch it! -- both first hand through a glass wall and on a closed-circuit TV that shows the whole thing up close. The place was pretty much empty when I had my procedure so I was not aware that others could watch. This day, the office was pretty busy. I watched him perform the fascinating procedure on three patients (six eyes). It is amazing. All of the procedures appeared to go flawlessly.
I shook his hand and thanked him for my great results. I remember the edge of his mouth curling up to a little smile -- the first emotion I had seen out of this very passive guy. It was nice.

Did you get any response from this message? Did you have lasik surgery done by Dr. Wills at Lasik Plus? Did you go to your initial visit?

Dr. Wills did my lasik at their center in Richmond Virginia in January. He seemed very nice and competent. however, I'm not all that pleased with the LasikPlus "factory" as a whole. the evaluation seemed thorough, but the post op checkups are awful. nothing was explained to me. I had to ask about using reading glasses, and the smug optometrist who does all my post ops said "go to the drugstore and try them on until you find the right one." anyway, I went last week for my one month post op and discovered, as I suspected, that my vision is regressing. this smug guy tried to tell me it was my fault because I used the computer too much and should have used "special glasses". he never bothered to talk to me about this sort of thing so how was I to know this? I got a survey from their home office and it mostly seemed concerned with speed and efficiency. how fast were you seen. how long did you wait. were you happy with your wait time? etc. so I had to go pay $180 for lenses for my old glasses because my eyesight is so bad I'm illegal to drive. Probably been driving dangerously for the three weeks since I was last seen, with my four year old in the backseat. so Dr. Wills is fine, but the rest of the package is not up to par. the post op care and pre op explanation are just as, if not more important, than the procedure itself.
