Doc,
I am 30 years old and my left eye has been a lazy eye since I was 5. I had surgery when I was 5 but this did not correct it.
I still have lazy eye and myopia (+4.25) perscription in both eyes. However, If I close one eye and look out the other my vision is clear in both eyes, minus the myopia. The lazy eye goes from one eye to the other depending on which eye I had open first (left eye seems to be lazy more often than not, right occasionally). My vision in fact has stayed relatively the same since I was a child, varying about (+.75). I am considering Lasik surgery, but I was wondering will this surgery benefit me as a person with a Lazy (crossed) Eyes. Won't I still have to wear glasses after Lasik to correct my Lazy Eyes??? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of Lasik to get rid of glasses??? Can my Lazy Eyes be corrected in any way with a another surgery and then have Lasik surgery to straighten out my Myopia???
Thanks.
Kevin

There are a number of considerations here. Firstly, you are hyperopic (myopic is (-)) and you prescription is correctable by LASIK. Secondly, do you need special prism glasses to avoid seeing double? If so, then you will still need glasses after LASIK (thus defeating the purpose). One way you might want to "try out" LASIK would be to try contacts. How you see with contacts will be similar to how you would after LASIK. LASIK will not correct crossed eyes, however, if you are after a cosmetic result, then you could have strabismus surgery to straghten them before or after LASIK.
Hope this helps
