I've have glasses for about as long as I can remember, so I attended a laser vision seminar to get rid of these glasses once and for all...
I'm 22 years old with a right eye of -8.50 +3.25x103 and a left eye of -9.25 +2.50x79.
After the seminar I scheduled an appointment with the local vision correction professionals who preformed a wavefront diagnostic test. My doctor said that I don't meet FDA guidelines for LADAR/wavefront procedure; however, I met the guidelines for lasik surgery. He proposed that I go through the lasik surgery to get me within the FDA guidelines for wavefront surgery, so the wavefront surgery could be done. Frankly, I was devastated to hear the news...
I'd like to have the "cadillac" wavefront surgery done but this doesn't seem possible now. My doctor suggested waiting for the FDA to loosen it's wavefront guidelines. (The FDA could take YEARS to change it's wavefront guidelines and I don't think I can wait that long.) Do you think there is a chance of the FDA changing it's standards in the near future?
Laser surgery scares the hell out of me and now I'm faced with doing two surgeries. Is there a greater risk in having two surgeries? Will there be more problems with the Lasik surgery? More people seem to have a larger number of complications and serve problems with lasik. (ie longer healing time, dry eyes, halos, incorrect vision.) Will I be at risk for these types of problems and can wavefront fix them? How common is this double surgery preformed?
