I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with LASIK in or around Phoenix, AZ? I am currently looking at David Dulaney, M.D. (or one of his collegues at the Barnet-Dulaney eye center), and at Gerald Walman, M.D. Has anyone worked with either of those surgeons in the past or is there anyone else in the Valley of the Sun that you would recommend? I would also consider traveling down to Tucson for the surgery if there was someone there who came highly recommended.

Thanks for your time!

Mornin', Jay --

I had Lasik done at B&D a couple of months ago, and am very pleased with the results: I am now 20/20 each eye and can see line 10 (20/13) with both eyes. I have experienced far less discomfort than anticipated.

A friend at church also had LASIK at B&D and was very happy with them. He told me that most of the people in his office (some 12 or 15) had been there with no complaints.

B&D uses the "assembly line" method: a lot of people will be involved in doing paperwork and checking your eyes. Dr. Dulaney won't personally see you until the day of the surgery and won't actually see your eyes until you're on the table. I'm OK with that, but some folks prefer a more personal approach.

If you have any special clerical needs, such as an insurance company that might pay or FAA approval, make sure you have your act together before you talk to the clerks or the doctor about it. I didn't, and it caused some heartburn for all of us. The staff handles their job very well in my opinion, but seem to stumble if you throw'em a curve ball.

BE SURE that you follow pre-and post-op instructions carefully and you'll be ok.
