I would like to get an appointment to have my pupils checked with this 'Colvard Pupillometer'. Does anyone have one out there?? I live in Sacramento.

I've had both surgeries already, and have the halos and starbursts. My doctor said my pupils were 5mm, but just eyeballing them and with a metric ruler as well, they look to me more like 6-7mm 'in dim light' and for all I know, they could be 8mm.

I was -9 and -10 refraction originally and now am at 20/20 in the daytime and at night it's about the same, only I can't see the road to drive at night, because of the starbursts & halos.

This could go away in time, but no matter what my vision is, I'd still like to have this test done so I'll know that at least there was something scientific done to verify what they are 'in dim light' and what 'dim light' is exactly.

Thanks...

If you pupils look like 6-7 mm to you, then they are likely bigger because trying to check you own pupils results in some degree of constriction.

A pupillometer is probably overkill. All that's really needed is a dark room, a penlight with cobalt blue filter, a pupil measuring card (found on a Rosenbaum near vision card), and a person (not yourself) to check measure. These are available in most every ophthalmologist's office.

If you are getting really bad symptoms, you doc may be able to get you a dilute pilocarpine eyedrop to constrict the pupils when driving at night. Your symptoms don't surprise me for a guy with such a high prescription.

By the way, how old are you? And what color are your eyes. Youth and light eyes generally give bigger pupils.

I'll get someone to check them for me using this method. I am a young 55 and have fairly light eyes, actually....they are green. While I was in the surgery room during my enhancement, one of the assistants in there said, "Doctor, he's 7mm". And the doctor said, "What do you mean, 7mm". I wondered about that, but it could have been something else she was referring to.

Thanks...for the information.

I am scheduled for LASIK in the near future. I am currently -2.75 and -3.0(w/ slight astigmatism). At 43,I do not currently wear reading glasses. I do not want to go monovision. So many others seem to have much greater prescriptions. I am told that I could have intacts. What are the benefits of intacts over LASIK?

Both intacs and LASIK are very safe procedures, and which one is the better procedure is still unknown - they are both very good and patients with low levels of myopia are very happy with either procedure. The complication rates also seem to be pretty close.
If you are un-decided, you should carefully talk with your surgeon

Best of luck
