Seeking referals for excellent seattle area surgeons! I already know about Dr. Ford at PCLI, and he's on the list. The UW surgeon, although this info might be dated, only lists 300 or so lasik surgeries in his bio. Since I had complications with my initial lasik, I am seeking someone who is highly experienced to do an enhancment that may involve correcting an induced regular astigmatism.

I'm not terribly interested in travelling for the enhancement, but if you know a really amazing surgeon in BC, Oregon, or Minneapolis/St. Paul, that's fine.

Please provide surgeon's name, not just the clinic name. Personal experiences are welcome, especially if you had astigmatism corrected or had complications but your dr. was great at working through them. Thanks!

P.S. Last time this question was asked, it got side-tracked to a USA vs. Canada debate. Please, please hold off on that debate. I'm aware of the issues and now need to identify the best possible surgeon in the area.

You may want to see Harry Geggel MD
or Steve Wilson MD in Seattle. Both are superb corneal
surgeons with significant experience.
In Minneapolis, Richard Lindstrom MD, Dave Hardten MD,
Eric Linebarger MD and Neal Sher MD are all
very well qualified and very experienced.

I very much appreciate these referals. I've seen quite a bit about Dr. Lindstrom.

Cristin,
I would also recommend Dr. Lindstrom or his partner Dr. David Hardten. Their former associate Dr. Ralph Chu is also excellent. I've personally seen these guys do live surgery, and they are excellent.

Although your significant regression after a flap lift is unusual, a myopic enhancement with regular astigmatism is a fairly frequently performed procedure.

Personally, I would exhaust all local resources first before travelling. But you should do whatever you makes you most comfortable.

Did anyone check your corneal thickness after surgery? What about a dilated refraction?
There should be something there to explain such a change.

Good Luck, Dean Hu

I will ask about the corneal thickness, and I have not yet had the dialated refraction. I will ask for that at my next apt. in a couple weeks. Thanks!

I posted another reply to you, but it did not "take" -- I hope that I am not recreating it again!

Basically, I am also very confused about why the vision would be worse after only a relift. The DLK was pretty minor and cleared up within a couple days, so I don't think that was the issue.

And, I do prefer a local dr. but have family in MN, so that's a feasible option. No one in Hawaii, though! :(

I agree that the DLK has little to do with your situation. A fair number of people get a very mild case that causes no problems.
The should, however, be something to give us an idea of why you changed so drastically. Hopefully that can be discovered locally even if you do travel for you retreatment. Let us know what you find out.
Good Luck, Dean Hu

I'm following up on the referrals now, and should have some answers to post in the next few weeks. I will let you know what's going on. Thanks Dr. Hu and deLuise!
