Please help me. I had lasek on both eyes 2 weeks ago. At first there were the normal complications which have passed. Eight days after surgery my eyes became sensitive to light. This worsened some. For the past 3 mornings it is unbearable to be around light for at least 5 hour after getting out of bed. I've used Systane drops & Refresh drops but nothing helps. Is this normal & if so, how long will it last. Thank you, Karen

Hopefully, by the time you read this, your light sensitivity has subsided. I had lasik 6 years ago and had the same problem. My followup visits were extremely painful (having to look at that bright light during exams). I actually had to get rides to work and wear sunglasses in the pharmacy I worked in for almost a week. It eventually went away, and I believe I had a reaction to the antibiotic drops (I used Ciloxan) Anyway, I hope it's better for you now.

Karen, contact your doctor's office today. The onset of light sensitivity (photophobia) can indicate a serious problem, or may just be how your eyes heal from surgery. Either way, your doctor needs to examine you and determine what is causing the problem and provide a treatment plan. Don't guess, get appropriate advice.

Karen,
Many have had this same reaction after surgery. They are treating this condition with Pred Forte and it does help but is very dangerous for long term use.
I'm more than 10 months post op and still have flare-ups of light sensitivity. It is made worse by allergies so I think it may be an inflamation issue. I found out that RefreshTears was making the problem much worse despite the Lasik office promoting this product. I switched to a product called Soothe and it helps considerably. You can buy it at Walmart. Also, try an air purifier where you can.
