This is not so much a question as it is an observation about what I'm coming to view more and more as the sorry state of this LA$IK biz. I had my procedure done at a LasikPlus in suburban Chicago in late January 2006. I'm 6+ months out and I'm happy with day vision but not happy with night (contrast-sensitivity loss, not as sharp, some doubling of small pinpoint light objects) and some fluorescent light situations. As a condition for qualifying for the "lifetime enhancements" I paid for, I have to get a regular annual checkup. Did that a few weeks ago and, get this, I'm -.5 diopters in each eye with a little bit of astigmatism in both. That explains a few things. I thought LA$IK doctors overcorrect (my ophth friend tells me) younger people like me on the assumption that there will be some "regression." Anyway, I'm straying from the point here and it is this:
Another friend called around 8/17 to the same center because he's kinda dissatisfied with his correction. They gave him a 9/16 enhancement consultation appt. I called a day later and was given a 9/19 appt. Today, though, I had a weird feeling this company is BSing me in favor of NEW PAYING CLIENTS. I called up for an appt POSING AS A NEW PATIENT WITH CONTACTS. I was told to take them off tomorrow and be in Thursday morning! Today's Sunday night. Then I let the guy know I'm kinda miffed because I've already had the procedure and was given an enhancement appt a month out. There may be some truth to what he said about seeing different doctors and schedules and stuff...but this is BS.
This, coupled with my own experiences post-op...corroborated by web boards saying the same...20/20 on that Snellen...especially in a LA$IK office...is BS!!!! They put drops, they let you squint, etc.
Knowing what I know now I would not have gotten this procedure. Contacts were FAR crisper, cleaner, sharper, etc.
If LasikPlus wants to mess with me, I guarantee I will be in their office daily scaring away clients in $50K chunks in only a few hours a day!
