Hi, I had about 5 RK surgeries on each eye long ago, I was very nearsighted. I have never been able to drive much at night due to halos and everything is much darker to me than a person with normal eyes. Not being able to drive at night is really really hard. I am unable to wear hard contacts and soft contacts bother me also, my eyes are so sensitive. My vision changes thruout the day due to my unstable corneas. I guess I have about 50 incisions in each. I wear over the counter glasses for farsightedness now, usually 250's, and 300 or more for reading. Is there anything new, intacts, lazer? really comfortable contacts that use a saline solution? that might help me. I have been waiting for something new to be developed to help my vision for years. I am so happy to have this forum to ask anyone for their help. Thank You, Anne

There have been tremendous developments in Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses in recent years. If it has been more than 2-3 years since you were evaluated, you owe it to yourself to be examined.
You will probably want to ask your ophthalmologist and optometrists for someone who has extensive experience in fitting post-RK eyes. They can be a challenge, but there are expert doctors who rise to this challenge. The Oregon Health & Science University in Portland has a well respected eye care department. If you go to the doctor directory of this website you will find a doctor in Eugene.
Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin (C3-R) is a developing technique to stabilize corneas that you may want to research. It is difficult to predict if it will help your situation, but in several studies it has been shown to stabilize weakened corneas. http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/c3-r.htm
You should talk to your doctor about pilocarpine or Alphagan P. Both of these eye drops will reduce the size of your naturally dilated pupils and this may improve your night vision driving. Alphagan P tends to be less traumatic on the eye.
