I had PRK (Epi-LASIK) almost 2 weeks ago. My vision is functional (working on the computer is not great but I can almost read the news paper & drive; still cant read the license plates unless it's the car ahead of me at a red light). Vision is blurry with some double imaging which is more pronounced close-up then at distance. The right eye is worst than the left.
The recent exam I had showed I'm about 20/40 in both eyes, a bit farsighted (+ 1.00) with some astigmatism (50). The Dr. says the optical quotient is zero as the astigmatism and farsightedness cancel out and that this will correct itself with time. He's also prescribed Muro 128 5% ointment for 2 week until my next exam. Down to 3 times on the Flarex from 4 a day. Using artificial tears a few times a day.
Q1: Is my progress normal for 2 weeks? I understand that there is delayed healing after PRK but was expecting/hoping to have better vision at 2 weeks.
Q2: Does the astigmatism cancel out the farsightedness as the Dr. explained and will it all go away with some time?
Q3: Why do I need Muro and is its use normal at this stage?

I had PRK done on both of my eyes in Nov 2004. I can tell you from my own experience that the healing period is long, and it took over 8 months for me to reach my final vision. My vision has been stable since, I'm now at 20/20 R and 20/25 L. It sounds like you're doing better than I was 2 weeks into post-op. I didn't feel safe to drive until 6 weeks after my surgery. I had to use eye drops (both prescribed and OTC) for many weeks. The best thing to do now is to follow your doctor's post-op instruction, wear sunglasses when you are outside, and rest your eyes as much as you can. Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement John. I've been trying to be patient and after reading the experiences of others who have had PRK (Epi-LASIK) I feel much better.
But I still don't really know why I need to use the Muro 128 5% ointment at bedtime. Anyone have any ideas?
