I have worn glasses since tird grade, I have always taken my glasses off to read. I realize I am entering the unknown questionof prebyopia (i/m 44. I take off my glasses to work on the computer & to read. It's been awhile, so I don't remember what I did when I had contacts. In my eval, the DR suggested monovision. Correcting my right (dominant)eye for 3.5, leaving my left (stronger) eye at 2.5 for reading. I called the optician & can get a clear replacement for my left glasses lense. I tried it for awhile at the office (and actually on various occassions when one contact or glasses lense was lost) with some success. But had a major headache (could be stress related). Looking for some more info. Does it make sense to have the difference that exists?, Are people happy with monovision?

I left my less-dominant left eye along (-1.75) & had my right eye lasered last Sept with an enhancement on my right eye in March for a central island (double vision). I love monovision. I only tried it a short while with a contact in my right eye at the eye center (about 20 minutes). I found not only could I read clearly, but I could read signs & read small print on the TV. I no longer have the double vision & am corrected to -.50. The only time I experience a little blurriness is when my eyes are dry (I use drops all the time--don't mind it). My eyes instantly focus for what I need--if I look far away, I see clearly; when I read or am on the computer, I see clearly. I am 56. When I cover my left "reading" eye, everything, including computer screen distance, is very blurry. I am very glad I only had the one eye done. I never have headaches & have had no problem with depth perception. I have jogged for over 20 years & enjoy seeing the sidewalk or street clearly & being able to see up in the next block and beyond. Just wanted to let you know--I always answer "monovision" questions because I would be so sorry if I had my good reading eye done also. Someone else posted here that it's not only reading, but shaving legs, putting on makeup, etc, etc. Good luck!

Hi,
ask your prospective surgeon if you can 'borrow' some contacts to simulate the monovision you would be shooting for in your LASIK. Most offices provide this service free so you can see if you can adjust before cutting on your eyes.
