My lasik on my right, dominant eye was 9-18-99 (left my left eye alone for close reading). I developed a central island & was seeing double (ghosting double below signs, telephone lines, etc). About 5 or 6 wks ago I had an enhancement done on my right eye. I am very happy with the results--am seeing 20-20. I asked what my vision is & was told plano-0.50 X 180. Before it was -1.75 (in both eyes). How good is the -0.50 X 180? The monovision is working very well--each eye seems to know which to use near & far. My eyesignt is the best in the dark & early morning hours. I think I also have dry eyes--use drops often. I am almost 56. Thanks for your time!

I'm sorry if I left too long a message before--I really was curious how my results are in my lasiked eye. It's the first time I've known the "numbers." Is plano -0.50 X 180 good? I appreciate your time & know you're busy.

I was wondering how long it took you to adjust to monovision? I understand it's a gradual process, I'm experiencing that now, but how long until you knew you were there?

I almost didn't have lasik because I was told I would lose my reading ability & it was perfect. The doctor casually mentioned "monovision" as an afterthought. He put a contact in my right eye & said to walk around. It took me about 20 minutes to decide (if that) because I could read signs, closed captioned small print on the TV, & pick up a magazine & read perfectly. I scheduled the surgery for that Saturday. I was fine with the monovision because I think I wanted it to work so badly. I could read, see my dashboard, & see distance. Before when jogging, I kept my eyes before my feet because the pavement was kind of blurry. Now I can see up in the next block--window details, cars, etc. I can read the computer & read close up--even tiny print. I don't know why my eyes adjusted so well to it. I have dry eyes & use drops often. Sometimes signs are blurrier than other times. My surgeon (Dr Hsu at Laser Eye Center in Torrance CA) said he had it a year ago & you do experience fluctuations some days. So I don't panic when things aren't as clear for a day or so. I hope your eyes adjust because if you have your less-dominant eye done, you won't be able to see the computer, read, the dashboard, etc, etc. The only problem I've had with depth perception is that I find it very hard to thread a needle! Good luck!

So what you're saying is that after your lasik surgery, you adjusted to monovision immediately? I can read (very tiny print) and I can see distance, it's just that there's always a little second where my mind has to adjust and it's never reached the comfort point I need. Did your sight improve slowly after the sugery? Would you say that there's any improvement taking place now? My toughest focal point right now is my computer., but if I had to wear glasses only when on the computer I would be a happy man. It's been 13 days and I'm determined to make this work, I'm just trying to get a feel for other people's experiences.
