I have been wearing contacts with a small amount of monovision. My right eye is fully corrected at -5.75 and my left eye is at -3.00 where a fully corrected prescription is -4.25. At the lasik consultation I we agreed to undercorrect my non-dominant eye by 1 diopter since that is what I was accustomed to. My goal would be -5.75 (right) and -3.00 (left). I'm wondering if I would be shortchanging myself if I don't try for more undercorrection to help as I age. I am now 49 years old. I can delay surgery and try weaker contacts in my left eye to see if I can adapt. My understanding is that the brain can handle about 2.5 diopters and it has me thinking as to whether I should try going lower (-2.0 to -2.5) before going under the knife/laser.

you could try weaker contacts before getting lasik. Maybe you dont even need or want lasik if your so used to contacts. Its only 30 seconds to insert em, 30 seconds to remove em. Lasik would save you 1 minute a day the way I think of it. it seems lasik is more popular for those stuck with glasses which you arent
