I'm 50 years old, and have been wearing gas permeable lenses for over 20 years. Right now I use one regular lens and one bifocal lens, and never, ever need reading glasses. However, I now find my eyes don't tolerate lenses as well as they used to, and my optometrist has the technology has reached the point where I'm a good candidate for LASIK.

My question is this: I love to do outdoor sports, and fear that monovision will rob me of my ability to compete in fencing, triathlons, and the annual shooting competence test I have to pass each year.

Is a possible solution the wearing of one soft lens after surgery? Wearing reading glasses will negatively impact my ability to do my job in combat situations.
