Hi,
If any of the doctors on the forum have a moment any responses would be appreciated.
I had lasik 3 years on the right eye which was not too good, no problems apart from the fact that I was quite undercorrected for various reasons including a high presciption. That eye is now about -3.0 with -1.5 astigmatism which at my age (49) means that it is great for reading but not really much good for the computer on which I work all day. I decided to wait to do the left eye and now am about to do it with intralase (-8.75 and -2.75 astigmatism) to get a bit more balance in the eyes and then revert to glasses as I have become intolerant to the hard contacts I used to wear in the uncorrected eye.
Problem is that I cannot decide what is the optimum to aim for in the left eye and have opted for trying for -1.0 (corneal thickness etc is fine for this) and then maybe if that turns out okay to try for a PRK enhancement on the right eye to get that back to something I can work on the computer comfortably with.

My questions is in this sort of situation and with my age is -1.0 a good target to aim for or should I go for something less like -1.5 etc. and then try PRK on the right eye. Unfortunately my right eye which was treated with lasik 3 years ago is the dominant one What I would like to aim for is comfort in the using the computer and reading with distance vision being a secondary consideration and corrected with glasses.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

The best way to try out monovision is of course with contacts(can be soft contacts if you want). Try different contact powers till you find something that works best for you. No one can tell you what is best, only you will know.

Determining the amount of monovision that is best for you would best be explored with either a contact lens test, or trial frames in your doctor's office. Since computer terminal distance and font size can vary from person to person (not to mention your age plays a role), you would be wise to work this out with your eye doctor before another surgery is planned, so the appropriate amount can be targetted when planning your enhancement .
