There are many formulations of lubricating eye drops. Some are thicker and provided added protection, but with the consequence of reduced visibility. Some may be more comfortable for an individual than others. The one point that is important is for the eye drops to be preservative-free.

The preservatives commonly used in lubricating eye drops can cause dryness and irritation.

True preservative-free eye drops will come in small single use vials and are significantly more expensive that drops with preservatives. There are also preservative-benign drops that are available in bottles. These drops have a preservative that theoretically becomes benign upon contact with the eye.

If you are recovering from LASIK or similar surgery, use only preservative-free drops. If you simply need eye lubrication due to environmental dryness, give the preservative-benign drops a try.

If your dryness continues, you need to be evaluated by a competent eye professional who can determine the cause of the problem and treat the problem, rather than you treating the symptoms with lubrication drops.

I am 3month after LASIK, I am using refresh plus, but I found it is not moisture enough. I tried Celluvisc as well, but it's too rich and it took me a few minutes to get clear vision. BTW, what's the difference between lubricating eye drops and artificial tears. Which one is good and safe for long term use?
