I had LASIK one year ago. I was overcorrected and my
doctor recommends an enhancement. He
recommended waiting because I was experiencing a
fluctuation. A year later I sill have a fluctuation. I want to
get the enhancement but I’m worried that the same
problem may occur. I’m concerned about the overall
accuracy of this process. I’d also like to check the
success rate of my doctor to see if others have had
similar difficulties with him

Thanks

No surgery can be accurate if it is performed on a moving target. Even if the target is hit, it will continue to move. Listen to your doctor’s advice. You are being advised against surgery until your eye becomes stable. That is very good advice. No matter what the surgeon’s success elsewhere, your case will not be successful if you have surgery when you should not.

Rather than worry about the refractive error, focus on what is causing the fluctuation. That is the real concern, not that you still need glasses. If stabilization does not come with healing, then I recommend you consider rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses instead of more surgery. These have a stabilizing effect on the cornea and would likely provide a correction to the residual refractive error.

I know you didn’t have surgery so you could continue to wear contacts, but there is little value in having surgery on a cornea that is not healthy, and continued fluctuation indicates an unhealthy cornea.
