I underwent LASEK in May 2002 to correct my myopia (-4.5 or so in both eyes), using the B&L Technolas 217. I had reasonably large pupils (I believe they were close to 7.0) and thin corneas, prompting the LASEK recommendation.
The initial recovery was very rough as the doctor fitted me with a contact lens that was too small and pinched my eye. Following its removal, my recovery was fairly good, though long, and I ended up with good acuity (20/20 or perhaps 20/30). Since that time, I learned that I developed surgery-induced astigmatism as a result of corneal irregularities. My vision isn't so hot in low light, and I'm considering going back for another procedure.
I have two questions - first, what's the experience been with LASEK patients coming back for a second LASEK procedure? Second, is there a chance that my second procedure could either aggravate -- or even fix -- the irregularities in my cornea? I guess I'm wondering if that initial healing mishap could've caused this irregularity -- and if it's redone properly, perhaps it could fix it.
Thanks in advance for your advice! I also intend on going to a couple of additional surgeons.
