I truly hope that you are not trying to pick your surgeon based on the type of microkeratome that the doctor is using. I use the Moria - and I absolutely love the way my LASIK flaps come out. But I know other doctors that prefer other microkeratomes. I do not know very much about the Summit microkeratome.
I hope this helps

The Summit and the Nidek are exicmer lasers that perform the operation, the Moria is a microkeratome, this device cuts the flap for lasik. These are two totally different devices. The Summit OmniMed Apex is wrong. The OmniMed was second gereration, the Apex was next. The Apex is a large beam laser. The Apex Plus is and has been out for a few years. It is 4th gereration and their latest (not counting the Autonomous LadarVision, which is a flying spot laser). It is a large beam laser with an optic that rotates to help smooth the ablation. It also uses disk technology, this is the disk for astigmatism or hyperopia that is inserted in the beam path of the laser. Hope this helps clear things up. Randy Hill, Emory Vision

This laser was proven in a study by Dr. Robert Maloney to cause a higher incidence of irregular astigmatisms. He no longer uses this laser.

Where do you get this information. The Summit laser is used by many surgeons, and I am not aware of any studies or reports that the Summit has a higher degree of post-LASIK astigmatism versus other lasers. When one doctor switches lasers, it can be for a variety of reasons.
I personally have never used the Summit laser. But to say that it has a high incidence of irregular astigmatism is a false statement - please be so kind as to provide some type of reference more than - somebody told me.
Thank you

If the laser was proven in a study - show me the study. I would be more than happy to know there is a problem with a particular laser - but I do not know of this study.
