I recently had the surgery (2-18-00) on both eyes. I went into the surgery with -2.25 (r) and -2.75 (l) with a .5 astigmatism in my left eye. The day after the surgery my vision was tested at 20/15 and 20/25 with a slight astigmatism in the left eye on the 180 degree axis. My sight has fluctuated somewhat after the surgery and I have some swelling in the right eye that the doctor says is a negative reaction the blood draining from the hematoma caused by the incision. My vision is now very blurry; I have trouble with focusing on up-close, midrange and distant objects with a blurry 20/30 combined vision. My question is 1) the doctor said he could remove the astigmatism with an enhancement that requires him to make small slits in my eye similar to RK. What is your opinion of this procedure and it's effectiveness and complications. I do feel that the double vision is something that I cannot live with. 2) Have you ever run across anything similar to this with the vision dropping so quickly after the procedure. and 3) Should I be expecting my vision to improve.

honestly, the refraction 5 days after LASIK is worhless at planning future treaments. Your eyes will heal, and there will be changes in the refraction. So I wouldn't worry about AK procedures yet.
Instead, I would try to find out why your vision has dropped to 20/30. Are your eyes very dry ?? Remember that you may not feel like your eyes are dry, but a lack of lubrication (which is very common after LASIK) can result in blurry vision. As well, there can be other causes of blurry vision including inflammation and infection. So you should see your doctor frequently until your vision stabalizes (And/or you determine the cause of your 20/30 vision.
i will be happy to answer other questions
