Hello,

I had LASIK performed in July at TLC in VA. Prior to LASIK, I was
about -7.5 with -1.5 astigmatism. Two days
post-LASIK, I could just barely read the 20-20 line on the Snellen
chart, but I could tell my right eye was not quite right. Within 3
weeks, I was really starting to notice that my vision was regressing.
At my 1-month post-op checkup, it was confirmed that my regression was
there. I was very much correctable with the lens apparatus in the Dr's
office, and I was fitted with temporary contacts which measured -1.5 (R)
and -1.0 (L).

Is this a normal amount of regression? Did my Dr. miss the mark, thus
causing this much regression? I am planning to go back for another
LASIK in a month or so to correct this regression (I hope).

TIA

P.S. I really had the dry-eye syndrome as most LASIK patients do ( I
was using drops every HOUR or two), but in the last few weeks, I have
been able to cut back to a drop or two per DAY. What a relief that is.
Also, since LASIK, I have not had the night vision problems that so many
speak of. Am I just lucky?

No your Dr. did not miss the mark. Regression is
unpredictable and is patient dependent.
Fortunately it only occurs occasionally. It
sounds like your Dr. is responding appropriately
by giving you temporary correction and waiting the
appropriate time for an enhancement. Your chances
for good vision are high. Good luck

I agree. Regression is completely unpredictable.

Even if you have very small pupils, you are lucky to have no night symptoms. I warn all of my patients that they will more than likely have some sort of night symptoms, almost always annoying, but by no means disabling. People with large pupils, however, are at much greater risk.
I personally have small to medium pupils and only notice halos in the lowest of light settings. It kind of resembles the gold halos around subjects in Renaissance paintings.

Good Luck with stabilization and enhancement.

I was a -9 and -10 and regressed to -2 in both eyes from -1 or so after the first surgery. I've had the enhancement about 3 weeks ago and so far notice no change, but regression could occur anytime. I'm pretty much plano in my distance eye, and I have mono in the other.

If I regress, I suppose it would be about a fifth of -2 as was the first surgery, but that's just a guesstimate on my part and I'm sure it's a bit more technical than that. After my 1 month exam on Nov. 4, I'll see what's up with it.
