I have been wearing my glasses for weeks, and then wore contacts for an evening, then the next 2 days to work - maybe 24 hours total in 3 days. Then I decided to go with lasik and have taken them out ever since.

My question is - how long does it take contacts to reshape your cornea?

If it werent for those few days I would have been out of my contacts for a few weeks prior to my surgery. i just want to make sure my corneas are how they're sposed to be. My surgery is Friday and it will be a week since I last took them out.

Thank you!

You want to seek your doctor's opinion, but it would appear that you should be fine if your contacts were soft single correction.

Your light use of contacts and the extended period of time without them should allow the cornea to relax to its natural state.

Most doctors want you to be out of contacts for at least 2 weeks. Some say a month or more. I would play it safe in my opinion. If your getting lasik, you have no need for contacts anymore, throw them all away and be out of them at least 2 weeks. Theres no hurry, 2 weeks wait isnt much for a life time of improved vision.

Another question, whats your glasses pescription now? If its very low, you might consider only getting your dormant eye lasered or not at all.

The answer is the longer you are out of contacts - the better. Although each doctor has their own criteria, the laser manufacturer VISX recommends staying out of soft contacts for 2 weeks prior to surgery. The laser manufacturer recommends 3 weeks for soft toric contact lenses. And for hard lenses - it can take many weeks to even longer (we need to perform topography to evaluate when the eye has returned to its normal shape with hard contacts)

I hope this helps
