I have a PRK appt coming up soon.
I've been wearing contacts and glasses for over 10 years now. Before that, I needed glasses but didnt realise it.
My prescription is fairly low, -0.75 and -1.25. However, I can not read street signs when driving without contacts or glasses. Or license plates... everything is just fuzzy and out of focus.
And I love to play sports... but my disposable contacts don't give me great vision. Plus glasses and sports don't really mix.
I have been for two free exams to see if I qualify for LASIK or PRK. Apparently I am a perfect candidate. I have a nice thick cornea (14mm I think they said?) and an easily corrected prescription.
If I go through with my appointment, I will be getting PRK, because I do participate in some contact sports.
I work on the pc, and read a lot in my spare time. Beyond that, I have a fairly active lifestyle, I play a variety of sports and lift weights several times per week. I am a fairly healthy guy with no other medical problems (that I know of).
Their seems to be PLENTY of good advice on this forum. Could any tell me if I should go through with the operation or not? My biggest fear is that I will end up with worse sight then I currently have... and you only get 1 pair of eyes...

Thats a very low pescription and your world wouldnt have much blur. If you even want lasik, only do it in the -1.25 eye. Your -.75 is too low to take the risks and too close to plano. Whats your uncorrected visual accuracy now by the way? Best corrected?

Visual accuracy? Good question, I have no idea.
With contacts, my vision is not much improved from normal - contacts have never been comfortable and don't seem to FIT my eyes well. With glasses, my vision is nice and crisp - which is what both LASIK firms have told me I will get with the PRK procedure. Of course, I am sure they are just selling their product.
But whether that is answering your question, I have no idea.

I agree with ACE. Your prescription is rather low, and chances are you will come to appreciate it when you get older and need bifocals.
There must be something missing here. Do you have any astigmatism? There are so many new and excellent contact lenses on the market, it is the rare person who cannot be fit.

no astigmatism or anything. my eyes just dont like the contacts.. they are uncomfirtable, irratating and give me only a very slight improvement in my vision...
I've tried at least 8 different brands of contacts and half a dozen solutions in the past few years to get around this, but none work any different it seems.

Then you may NOT want to get lasik at all or if you do, ONLY do it in ONE eye, the worse -1.25 eye. Make sure you can handle mild monovision. Your uncorrected vision should be quite decent with such a low pescription(at least 20/40) and in reality, you probably dont need glasses for anything. You can easily play sports without glasses or contacts. The bright light will further help you due to pinhole effect. I am kind of puzzled when you say things are blurry because of your low pescription. Do you have a prism in your glasses or anything? My brother is 20/60 uncorrected and he doesnt wear glasses 90% of the time and his pescription is -1 and -1.25 with mild astigmastim in both eyes. He tells me he can see quite well and that glasses dont make much of a difference.
