A patient our organization is working with had a very bad flap complication. After evaluation by a cornea specialist to which we referred the patient, it was decided that full removal of the mangled flap would be the best course of action.
After flap removal and regeneration of the epithelium, his vision is dramatically farsighted. He has barely count-finger vision. Spectacles are only a minor improvement. The patient is a musician and needs to be able to perform. He also needs to be able to drive with at least some depth perception.
I recommend he try a pair of pinhole glasses. He bought a pair at http://www.myopia.org/pinholes.htm
With them on, his vision is improved dramatically. He is a looong way from perfect vision, but it is improved enough that he can drive, read sheet music, and see to play in the band. As a musician, he can easily wear shades all the time, even in dark clubs.
After several months the patient will have PRK to return the cornea to a more prolate shape and resolve some of his overcorrection due to flap removal. Fortunately he has very thick corneas. Hopefully PRK will resolve his Lasik complication.
