Hi,
About 3 years ago at age 45 I opted to have Lasik on my right eye - being the cautious type with about -8.75 plus about -1.25 of astigmatism in each eye (After cutting and measuring the flap the surgeon said he could get me to .5 to .75 so I said go ahead as at my age that would have been ideal). However, immediately afterwards there was -2.25 left with some astigmatism. Now this has regressed to about -3.5 with about -1.25 of astigmatism (not sure of exact figures). Needless to say I did not proceed with the other eye. Until recently I have just worn a contact in the unlasiked left eye and left the lasiked right eye uncorrected as according to the suregeon there was not enough over the recommended 250 microns of residual cornea to make an enhancement feasible (though recently I had the measurements checked at a university hosptial nearby and they said that in fact there was enough to lift the flap and do an enhancement - not sure which party to believe though I guess they both have vested interests in their respecitve positions). Anyway I can still use the lasiked right eye for reading and I did try an RGP for it but that was uncomfortable and when I removed it at night the distortion of the cornea meant that reading with that lasiked eye was out and the unlasiked left eye is useless for reading as the prescription is so high.
At some stage I want to correct the as yet unlasiked left eye and at my age I guess that a lens replacement might be the better (and more accurate option) but until I do that I would like to try and get my lasiked right eye to a reasonable prescription because glasses are starting to appeal to me more now as but obviously with the current differences in the precription for the 2 eyes glasses alone are not really an option either way I tackle things.
I am reluctant to do a lasik enhancement and am more keen for PRK over the flap to leave as much of the untocuhed residual cornea alone as I can. I would be quite happy with anything which left me within -1.5 of plano with the same BCVA and am wondering with current technology what the chances are that PRK over the flap could give me that? Also what is the probability that regression has not stopped....I know that for most people it is well over by now but I seem to be right on the edges of things from the start - thick flap, undercorrection, regression - always well outside the normal ranges of bell curve the surgeon liked to throw at me pre-op)
Sorry if this is a bit disjointed but wondering what recommendations there might be...as an aside I now live in Japan

You are now 48. If you get more lasik on your -3.5 eye with -1.25 astigmastim, you may not see from near in that eye. Youd trade your near vision for distance vision. If you get overcorrected at all, you wont see clearly period. You mentioned using a contact lens in your -8.75 eye. If you can tolerate that contact fine, stick with this solution. Maybe use a weaker contact then wear glasses for distance, remove them for near.
If you must have more surgury, perhaps get an IOL(aphakic) for the -8.75 eye and bring it around the power of your other eye so you can tolerate glasses again when both eyes are about the same.
I dont see lasik/prk being a good solution due to your thin corneas and the risks.
