Hi, I had custom lasik abouth 6 months ago.
Immediately after the procedure I noticed differences in
my right eye. Pre-op we were concerned with my left
eye as I had virtually no tear production - used restasis
bilaterally for 1-2 months pre-op. My concerns about a
foreign sensation, occasional sharp pains, pain when I
touched a part of my right eyelid (particularly when just
washing my face, gently of course) and a general blurry
feeling were just blown off and I was told to use more
tears (was alredy using them in my right eye at least
once and hour when awake and faithfully used
ointment at night with goggles). At my one month check
up seen by my ophthamologist's associate and gave
the above complaints - said there was an were some
abnormalities and gave me steroid drops. No change
in symptoms. Then 6 weeks after surgery, I woke up
with immediate pain and blurred vision - thought it
would just go away. It did not so the next day an
unexpected visit to the ophthamologist. Told I had and
erosion but really looked "funny". He gave me a
contact bandaid and abx drops and off I went. The pain
and blurriness reduced over the next few days but the
all the pre-erosion symptoms were still there - again
told to used drops and just wait. About one month later
same thing happened and was told that it looked like a
piece of epithelium was hanging off by my
ophthamologist's associate. Treated the same way.
Now while I have less pain to touch, I still have a
blurriness and foreign body sensation. Told my
superficial epithelial cell never embedded "from the
erosions". An of course only now is the area in
question really close to the flap. Now they want me to
get PTK under my private health insurance.
Now the questions?
Can I get stromal puntures or scrapping first?
Will any procedure decrease my refraction - I am 20/15
but blurry on the right?
What is the recovery time for PTK?
Who should I see for a second opinion in the
Philadelphia or NY area?
Can I just wear glasses and deal with the foriegn body
sensation?
Do I run any risks for doing nothing - could it possibly
get better in time?
Thank you for any opinions you may have!
