Everyone certainly responds to LASIK differently. Especially if your mom was farsighted to begin with. Those patients tend to end up a bit nearsighted initially and "drift" towards better distance while they lose some of the up close vision as they heal. This is what it sounds like in your mom's case. Tell her to be patient, farsighted patients take a bit longer to heal and stabilize compared to their nearsighted friends. She may also benefit from getting a temporary prescription for distance to help her while she heals. As for followup, most surgeon's standard routine is 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after surgery, so it seems like your mother is getting appropriate care.
