What is the percentage of people that still have to wear some type of corrective lenses after either corrective surgery is done? One web page on the internet said the most common risk that that you can be under or over-corrected. I wonder why spend so much $$$ if I'm still going to wind up wearing glasses afterwards??

donna,

a very timely question as i am currently studying my patient group to see how many of them have actually bought glasses after surgery and what they are using them for.

the goal of lasik surgery is to reduce a patient's dependence on glasses or contact lenses. often we can get so close that the patient never uses them. a truly nearsighted person has trouble seeing their alarm clock, seeing across a room. if we can help that person see those things without correction, then we have helped that person, even if they require a thin pair of spectacles to see a very sharp 20/20.

hope this helps
