Please help me determine which way to go!
Pre-lasik -.75-2.00x95, -1.00-1.50x80. First lasik done 6/99. Result +2.50-1.50x95,+2.00-1.50x80. First enhancement done 10/99, result today 9/2000, +1.50-1.00x105, +1.75-1.00x060 with double/ghosting.
My questions are: 1) Why do I need glasses in the morning and by 5:00 or 6:00 the glasses are too strong and I can see better with squinting than with glasses in the evening? 2)Should I trust Dr. Tokarewicz in London Ont. to choose the Nidek to do the 2nd enhancement or insist on the Mel 70 he uses in Windsor? He had good credentials according to the information I pulled off the Web. Or Should I get a second opinion and By who in the Detroit area or Windsor area.
I have been reading soo much on your site and am totally confused, but I read a strong message "you only have one pair of eyes"! I think I have been more than patient, but I am tired of daily headaches and constant squinting with and wihout my glasses as the day progresses.
Dee,
I am a big fan of second opinions - and I would find an expert in the Detroit area. There are risks with each procedure, and you should make every effort to get things right.
Your second opinion doctor should carefully examine your eyes and in particular look at the corneal topography. As well, the second opinion doctor needs to carefully examine the flap to make sure that folds are not present (as folds in the flap can potentially be the cause of the double vision.
I hope this is helpful

I appreciate your answer and time. I have been told there are no problems with the flap and the cause is Irregular astigmatism probably caused by the first enhancement because I didn't have the problem after the original procedure-- only severe over correction as you can see by the numbers. Who would recommend in the Detroit area? Topography was done yesterday. Is it strange that I never get to see the surgeon? Dr. Merchea did the first lasik and after his overcorrection I asked to have Dr. Tokarewicz, the director of the Icon Laser Center do the correction. They always have check-ups done by their assistants a Dr. Shuit. I had a second opinion immediately after the overcorrection by a Henry Ford Eye Specialist and he told me to return to Canada and to use the same laser that was originally used, to do the enhancement.
After all you have gone through - your surgeon should be the one to see you. The problem is that Icon is a corporation that appears by your posting to be more concerned with performing more LASIK than in taking care of thier current patients. You should make sure that the senior surgeon examines you each time you are seen at Icon.
As well - you should consider a second opinion and possibly a third opinion to find out where you stand now after two treatments, and what your best treatment plan should be (have an enhancement or wait).
I hope this is helpful
