My husbands eyes have been in constant spasm for a very very long time because of the irregular induced astigmatism, ectasia..etc. When he gets a cornea transplant, should that immediately be resolved, or is it going to take time for the eye to settle down? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Corneal transplants are a very nice procedure, although it generally takes 2-6 months for the vision in that eye to improve to a "driving" level. I do not know why our husband is having eye spasm, so I can't comment on whether a transplant will help this. Eye spasm is not a typical complaint of ectasia.
Best of luck

Wouldn't the irregular cornea have something to do with it? He has irregular astigmatism on both axis of the cornea (very distorted). One doctor said that he has a very small optical zone now and that may be the cause. His pupils are quite large, so when they go out of that optical zone, they struggle to see. Any other doctors on the board with suggestions?

Well, I've waited a long time for another response from a doctor. I'm still waiting.

Lois,
Why is your husband having a corneal transplant? There are some doctors who do partial corneal transplants (grafts) to repair irregular astigmatism but the researchers are promising new technology in the next year that hope to be able to repair the damage done by lasik. If your husband was not diagnosed with ectasia then it might be safer for him to wait for new technologies.
Eye spasm is apparently a typical complaint of those with multiple images from lasik. It seems that the eyes are constantly trying to resolve the double images into a single image but just can’t do it. Your husband should try hard contact lenses (RGPs) to attempt to resolve his irregular astigmatism. They are very difficult to fit on eyes damaged by lasik so make sure to see a doctor who specializes in them. Visit www.surgicaleyes.org for lots of information on this (especially on the bulletin board).

I had a lameller graft for irregular astigmatism. Depending on how bad your husband's irregularity is will likely impact whether or not you should go the transplant route.
My lamellar graft has still resulted in irregular astigmatism that is correctable with contact lens. you should get as much information from people that have had this surgery. Everyone's situation is different, as well as their outcome.
