I had wavefront lasik on July 27, 2004. My left eye seems absolutely perfect and I see 20/15. Have no problems seeing at night either. However my right eye is awful and is getting worse. Not only do I have major glare at night, but I see double of the signs and lights. This is during the day as well. I was told I wouldn't have any of these issues if I had the wavefront procedure. Has anyone else had these problems? I'm so worried this will never go away.

I also had Custom LASIK in January 2005. My right eye is fine and has 20/20 vision, my left eye, was said to have 20/25 vision, but significant ghosting or a "double image" makes it very difficult to read...street signs, text, the computer. It gives me a headache just trying to function and reading is only possible if I cover my left eye. I also was never told that "double vision" was a possible complication, and technically my case is considered "successful". What treatments are there out there that can help me? Anyone? Wasn't Custom supposed to be "better" than traditional LASIK?

Out of curiousity how was the flap made when you had the procedure done? Was it intralase or the microkeratome?
Ken, I'm from the bay area too and was wondering where and from who did you have your procedure done by?

My flap was made using microkeratome by LaserVue, however, I've had many friends who had this procedure done there and they were thrilled with the results. I'm the exception so far, today I learned an astigmatism may be the reason for double edges, but after correcting with glasses lenses, I still saw them. Now I'm using some anti-inflammation drops to hopefully reduce any corneal swelling which might be the reason...I'll soon find out...

Well its been almost 6 months. Supposedly my vision is 20/20...but unfortunately, I've learned the hard way 20/20 vision doesn't mean much. My lasik induced astigmatism in my left eye gradually went almost to 0, but over the same time period my right eye developed an astigmatism. I still see double traffic lights, sometimes three (like Mickey Mouse) depending on how dry my eyes are at the time. Highway signs are difficult to read due to ghosting day or night. My eyes are fairly dry in general (despite "eye health" vitamins and drops, feels kind of like I want to take my contact out all the time (except I'm not wearing any).
Laservue says no lasik doctor would do a revision on someone with 20/20 vision, its just "unfortunate that my eyes healed so badly". (Gee, thanks Doc)... so I guess I'll be wearing contacts to correct my astigmatism, having thrown away 5k on Custom Lasik. Isn't Custom Lasik great!?

Ken,
As a LASIK surgeon, I see many patients with differing results. In general, ghosting can be caused by astigmatism (lower order aberration), or high amounts of higher order aberrations. These are the refractive reasons for ghosting. Non-refractive reasons include dry eye, cataract, and a variety of other causes.
Do you know how much astigmatism you have? In my practice, I have enhanced patients with "20/20" vision if the amount of astigmatism is 1.00 diopters or more, since correcting this makes the patient happy.
Did you recently see your surgeon? Or a different doctor? I find that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, frequently, and if you are not getting answers to your satisfaction, then insist on seeing the surgeon who operated on you.

Dr Furlong,
I have been overcorrected in one eye by +1.5, that makes near vision pretty crummy (i'm 48). Any suggestiong after 5 months post-op to correct...like
Custom/B&L/Zyop retreatment
CK,
Acular/Chemical regression
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

There are many options!!!!
Enhancements generally work well for +1.50.
Acular with contact lens molding typically works for +0.50 to +1.00 - +1.50 would be less likely to be effectively treated with Acular-contact lens remolding of the cornea.
I hope this helps
