Dr. Trattler, You mentioned that sometimes vision can recover if one is aggressive with treatment of underlying dry eye (I am hoping I will luck out and avoid an enhancement...see my post in the enhancement forum)...just curious...what % of pt's have their vision recover after treating the dry eye aggressively? (if there are no firm numbers available, even a rough estimate based on your own experience would be great)
I switched to preservative-free drops in the hopes that they will make a difference...am trying Tears Naturale Free [Dextran 70 0.1% and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose 0.3%....non-medicinal ingred's: purified water, NaCl, Na borate, KCl, NaOH and/or HCl (to adjust pH)]...they are less expensive than the others since the little containers are re-useable for 12 hours...any comments on this choice of brand?
I also have started taking oral omega-3 fatty acid supplements, 1 twice daily (ALA 212mg, EPA 72mg, DHA 48mg)...figured it can't hurt, and might help, so might as well try it....it also contains omega 6 and 9...

In my experience....around 70% of patients who are either under or over-corrected will be able to avoid an enhancement by being patient (and letting the eye heal) and treating underlying dry eye.
Marguerite McDonald showed recently in a study that patients pre-treated with Restasis were not only less likely to have dry eye after LASIK, but were also more likely to end up 20/20 or better. Dr. Schanzlin performed a similar study in San Diego, with similar results. The bottom line is that patients who had their dry eye aggressively treated ended up with better visual results.
You may want to talk with your doctor to see whether punctal plugs, Restasis, and a lubricating gel at bedtime can provide additional help to your condition.
Best regards

Thanks for your answer!
:)
I've been using a lubricating gel at bedtime for the past 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, Restasis isn't available in Canada (at least, not according to Health Canada's website...that's our version of the FDA...)
