Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is okay to gently rub the eyes if they have been lasiked? I am now 2.5 years post LASIK. I was told by my surgeon that I should never ever rub my eyes. He told me this after he had lasered my eyes. I suffer with dry eye and believe it is natural to rub ones eyes when they feel dry. There is a good reason for this is helps lubricate the eyes by squeezing out oils from the meiobian glands in the eyelids. Not being allowed to rub ones eyes means we will suffer even more with dry eyes. Please can a surgeon answer this question.

It is OK to gently rub one's eye a few weeks after LASIK. It is exceptionally rare for a person to rub an eye enough to move or shift a LASIK flap.
If you have dry eyes - consider restasis and punctal plugs. Also - warm compresses are vastly superior to eye rubbing in regards to releasing meibomian gland oils.
I hope this helps
