I had the LASIK procedure carried out yesterday and in the post op check up found out that a foreign object (probably a piece of Lint) is present under the flap and no part of it is exposed so it can not be simply pulled out. Can you tell me what if anything can be or should be done to remedy this?

The significance of debris depends on the amount and the location. Debris can get under the flap despite adequate washing/rinsing. If it is in the center of the flap, your doctor may decide to remove it. On the other hand, if it is to the side and not affecting vision, some doctors would just leave it. You will need to talk with your doctor about this.

Best of luck

Dear Doctor Trattler,

Thank you very much for your very prompt response. As of now the debris (Single strand of Lint) has not effected my vision and I am very satisfied with the way I see. However, I was mainly concerned with chances of infection. If my doctor’s decision is to remove it, does the flap have to be lifted and cleaned? If so, how much time (Post-op) does one normally have to wait to do this procedure?
