I was part of the Intac Ring (to correct eye vision) study back in 1997 at UCSF conducted by Keravision, had it removed in 1999, due to the vision not being fully corrected and seeing the ring at night. After explant the shape of my right eye bit changed, meaning the upper and lower lid resided, which makes the eye look puffy. I started to have pressure pains/dry eyes gradually after the explant. Few months after wards, I started to have double/ burly vision in the right eye. Gradually more eye floaters appeared in right eye, than left. In addition, the explant has procedure has affected my health in general, due to some depression and being angry with UCSF and Keravision for sometime. Currently I have blurry vision, double vision, halos, glare, dry eyes and induced astigmatism. I have asked for their help, but was turned down. I will regret this procedure for the rest of my life.
TO ME INTACS ARE NOT SAFE. If for some reason you might have to remove it, you just do not know what damage it might cause later…

Intacts in general are safe procedure. It sounds like you agreed to participate in a "trial" or study to see if Intacs work. Since you were participating in a study, you should have been informed that the results of intacs on you would be unknown (although hopefully good).
Most patients who have Intacs do have a good experience, and it does have a few advantages over LASIK. However, intacs have yet to become a significant player in the world of refractive surgery.
Best of luck

This thread is 5 years old. Intacs still have not caught on except for those with KC of course. I guess lasers and lasik has been improving constantly and theres wavefront lasers that give over 90% of people 20/20 vision. I really do like the fact intacs can be removed if you ever decide to get lasik or if your vision gets worse. Intacs should be easily removable with vision returning back to the way it was before. Do any of you reccomend intacs for a -5 myope with 8mm+ pupils?
