Hello - I have been told I am a good candidate for Lasik surgery but I am concerned because I have dry eyes and allergy eyes. I have had my lower tear ducts cauterized which has helped a lot but there are still times when my eyes are dry (winter, computer work, ect.) I have heard that intacts are used to treat people with low degrees of nearsightedness and astigmatism. My nearsightedness is about -3.25 in both eyes. I'm not sure what my astigmatism is but I have been told it is so slight it is not included in my glasses prescription. Is my nearsigtedness too high for intacs? Will they be coming out to correct people over -3.00 in the near future? Or are people who have allergy eyes and contact intolerant not good candidates for intacts? Are intacts a better option for patients with dry eyes than Lasik? Thanks for your help, Trish.

Intacs may be better for patients with dry eyes, although I do not know if this issue has been looked at specifically. Intacs can correct about 3 diopters of myopia without astigmatism. You can therefore consider this treatment, as your doctor will do a complete exam and find out your exact prescription.
Best of luck
