Dear Doctors,
My current prescription is -2. & -2.5 w/no astigmatism. I am currently considering laser surgery but am getting nervous about the possible complications. From the reading I have done it appears that complications from INTACs are reversible compared to the horror stories I have heard about LASIK. Do you think I would be a better candidate for INTACS?

Thank you,

Your prescription does make you a candidate for Intacs. You would like to have the procedure that has the greatest chance of success with the lowest risk of complication. Unfortunately, this cannot be answered based solely on your prescription. Pupil size and corneal curvature, for instance, play a role in the decision. Does your doctor perform the Intacs procedure? Ask him why he chose LASIK over Intacs. Good Luck.

Intacs was approved by the FDA over one year ago, but very few people in the US have had intacts placed. Many of the complications are similar in both LASIK and intacs, including infection, inflammation, etc.
The complication rate for both procedures is low for a person with 2 diopters of myopia without astigmatism.

I wish you the best of luck
