I have been given the opportunity to have lasik done with a new laser called a Q-Vis laser. I don't really know much about it, except for the fact that it's powered by crystal instead of gas. According to what I've been told (by semi-reliable sources) it's been used a lot in Australia and is much more effective then any of the lasers on the market as far as complications.
The maker of the company is trying to get FDA approval so I can get the surgery at a greatly reduced price. Do any of you know much about this laser?
I have no experience with this laser. I can tell you that until a laser has been used numerous times, the nomograms to treat each refractive error has generally not be refined.
Let me give you an example - the first time a brand of laser is used on a person, the surgeon must try to program the laser to treat a specific refractive error. With experience, the exact amount of treatment needed to treat a specific refractive error is improved.
What this means is that the chance that a person would need a touch up or enhancement generally decreases with increasing experience.
I do not know how many surgeries have been performed, so this is the type of information you can ask your surgeon about.
Best of luck
