I'm scheduled to have LASIK performed on 8/16 w/this machine and wonder: (1) whether the problems have been taken care of and how to verify that? and (2) If I got the actual machine # and compared it vs. FDA listed #s, would that do me any good?

Also, I would like generally an opinion as to how "good" a candidate I am. Here're my stats:

-6.25 (l); -7.0 (r) nearsightedness

3 cyl. astigmatism

7.0mm pupils in dark/reduced light (sat in dark room for 20 secondes)

Corneal thickness from 575 microns to 620 microns.

Seasonal prescription antihistimine use and some dry eye issues w/contacts previously.

Thanks in advance!

First - you need to call Autonomous. I know of the "recall" but it is my understanding that this is no longer an issue. But since I do not use an autonomous laser regularly, I can only say that you need to call autonomous to find out what the story is with this. You can also ask your own doctor.
Since you have larger pupils, most experts recommend the use of a larger optical zone that is as large as the size of your night time pupil. This does mean that more corneal tissue is removed, but it does reduce the risk for severe night time visual symptoms.
The other issue is the astigmatism, which is treated nicely with the autonomous laser. But you do have a high amount of refractive error, and comparatively your chances for an excellent result are less than a person with only a mild degree of refractive error. You should discuss this at length with your surgeon.
Of course, there are many other issues to discuss with your surgeon, and I can not tell you if you are a good candidate because i have not had the opportunity to examine you, etc.
I hope this informaton is of interest and help.

Best of luck
