I have -10 diopters on both eyes with some astigmatism. My pupils are 5.5mm I plan to have Ladar vision correction. What can I expect? Is Visix a better machime for me?

I was a -10 and had lasik with the Visx. Now I see three and four images of everything in both eyes. Lasik isn't worth the risk and any doctor who tells you it is "low risk" is unethical.

In exchange for the ability to function without contacts or glasses you will never again see as well as you do now.

Terri,
LASIK is a real surgery with real risks. You have had a frustrating complication called a central island - which is relatively uncommon. There are of course other risks with LASIK since it is a real surgery.
It is interesting - because my cut-off for laser vision correction is between 9-10 - as I feel that the chance of haveing poor quality of vision above -10 is a a little too high. But I have had excellent results for patients in the -9.00 range.
One option to consider for a person with 10 diopters of myopia is called a phakic IOL - which is where a permanent contact lens is placed in the eye. This technology is still undergoing FDA evaluation - but I do have 1 patient of my own who had a phakic IOL and can read the 20/12 line (which is 2 lines better than the 20/20 line).
I hope this helps

I'd give the world to be able to see only one of everything, let alone the 20/20 line. 20/12 is not even a dream for those of us who have been harmed by our doctors (3-5% of all lasik patients according to CRSQA). Our dream is to get correctable vision.

It is sad that the doctors have no problem with creating more and more of us each day. Before they sell you lasik they tell you that it is "low risk". Then when you have problems they tell you that "you knew the risk".
