I am considering lasik surgery. I have check out two surgeons. One does a huge number of lasik proceedures and has a dedicated laser. He uses VISX STAR S4 WavePrint System. This is his primary specialty. The other is a general opthamologist and is a corneal specalist. He does a lot of corneal transplants. His office tells me he has done well in excess of 1,000 lasik proceedures. He uses a laser that is moved from facility to facility. Surgeon #2 says that the mobil laser allows him to use the most up to date laser with the most current software. They say that the laser is transported with a certified tech to make certain it is calibrated. The first suregeon says this is not as good as a laser that is not moved. Any comments on whether it is better to keep the laser stationary or to have the most up to date laser and software?

thanks,
CM

It is my understanding that the mobile lasers have a good track record. But obviously there is a risk of some tye of problem during the transportation process. In general, each of the mobile lasers have a certified technician that travels with the laser and calibrates/tests the laser to make sure it is functioning properly prior to use.
Again - since I have never used a mobile laser, and I do not know the details of mobile laser that your surgeon uses, I can only provide a generalization.

I hope this helps
